Mission Statement
The First-Generation Low-Income Federation (FGLIF) supports anyone interested in the study of the ancient Mediterranean world from first-generation and/or low-income backgrounds. We understand these categories to be broad, incorporating first-generation college, grad, American, etc. We recognize and welcome that this will also overlap with other underprivileged and underrepresented groups. FGLIF aims to promote awareness of diversity, equity, inclusion, and mutual support for issues facing FGLI members of our profession. In particular, FGLIF aims to create a visible FGLI community within the discipline, train FGLI students in professional culture and skills. FGLIF members will serve as mentors to provide support and training throughout the year.
